Sump pumps are essential parts of many homes in Florida because of the stormy season that can create terrible flooding. In many parts of the country, sump pumps are installed down in basements. Homes here in Florida rarely have basements, so the sump pumps are part of the crawlspace where they remove water from the lowest part of the building structure and pump it out into the wastewater system. A professionally installed sump pump protects a home from serious water damage and keeps away excess moisture that can lead to mold and mildew growth.

Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. Is Donating to Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
September 20th, 2017Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes? Breast cancer is currently the second leading cause of death among women, and each year over 220,000 women in the country will be diagnosed with it. Breast cancer affects men as well, with an estimated 2,150 diagnoses each year. This is why it is so important to contribute to funding for breast cancer research and resources for both women and men to diagnose the disease early and effectively treat it. Already, research funding has helped to contribute to a decline in death rates thanks to continually improving options for treatment and better screening.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Modern Plumbing Industries, Inc. is proud once again to join in the fight against this widespread form of cancer. For this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, MPI will be donating a percentage of our October revenue to UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health. These donations will go to help women in need meet the expenses of their breast cancer care. To help further increase awareness among our customers, all of our MPI technicians will be wearing pink booties on their service calls.
Please join with us this month—and every month—in helping to shed more light on breast cancer and to honor those who have suffered from this affliction and those who are fighting to bring an end to it.

The P-Trap—That Curved Pipe under the Drain—Explained

However, there’s one important exception, and we bet it just popped to mind: the bent piece of drainpipe directly under your sinks. That is called the p-trap and it serves an important function in household plumbing. It’s an old invention using the power of gravity to help make homes more pleasant.

Most of the time that means calling on professionals for plumbing repairs.

Each of these concerns could end up turning into much more expensive repairs or even trouble with water damage and a complete loss of running water. With professional plumbers like ours only a call away, there’s no reason to delay repair work.
Does Corrosion Mean the End of the Line for My Water Heater?
July 31st, 2017Corrosion is metal’s biggest enemy, and it’s fair to say that nobody wants any appliance they own to suffer from the weakening effects of corrosion. It’s one that especially applies to water heaters, which combine metal, water, and oxygen—the perfect mixture to start the chemical reaction that leads to corrosion.
Fortunately for your water heater, it was designed with the dangers of rust and other forms of corrosion in mind. It has a number of safety designs to keep rust away: the inside of the tank is lined with glass; an overfill tank creates an air cushion for the water pressure without actually allowing oxygen into the tank; and a special device called an anode rod that runs from the top the bottom of the tank attracts corrosion to it so that it rather than the tank corrodes.
However, corrosion still can’t be prevented 100%. Your water heater may at some point start to show signs of corrosion. If this occurs, is it automatically time to replace the water heater?
